BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Rodents abundance evaluation:

Breeding conditions:

In the Mackenzie Delta region, which probably is the most important breeding area for Tundra Swans in Canada, a low percentage of the pairs produced broods and the productivity was very low this past year. This area accounts for perhaps 1/3 of the eastern population, so a further decline might be expected in this year's wintering counts. Also, because of the late spring elsewhere in the Canadian Arctic, breeding conditions were poor throughout most of the range of the eastern population.
